Diocletian
He built forts to prevent invasions. He also divided Rome into four parts each with its own ruler. He set maximum prices for wages and goods in order to prevent prices form rising further.
Constantine
The sons had to work their dad´s job, whether they liked it or not. The people did not like it though. He also became emperor in 312 B.C.
Theodosius
He divided the Roman empire in 395 B.C. Eastern Roman empire, and Western Roman empire.
Visigoths
Visigoths asked the Roman government for protection. The Romans let them in but then Romans, however treated them badly. Then in 410 A.D., a Visigoths leader took over Rome.
Vandals
They spent almost 2 weeks vandalizing and burning buildings. The word vandalism meaning destruction of property comes from the Vandals.
Odoacer
Odoacer had enough support from soldiers that he was able to take control. He took the power/throne from 14 yr old emperor. After Odoacer seized control, no one ever ruled Rome after him.
Roman Legacies
Roman achievements live in our system of laws and government today. something good/idea another place would steal/take and use. The peace and order created by Roman rule helped with the rapid growth and spread of Christianity.
Constantinople
The new capital arrived. By 500 A.D., Constantinople had become one of the world´s most advanced cities. Constantinople´s location was a major factor in the city´s success.
Justinian
He ruled the Byzantine Empire at the height of its power. A skilled general and a strong leader. He ruled from 527 A.D until 565 A.D. He controlled the military and made all the decisions in the empire.
Theodora
Helped give women more rights.
Hagia Sophia
It was made in 537 A.D., the domed church became the religious center of the Byzantine empire.
Mosaic
Mosaics are patterns or pictures made from small pieces of colored glass or stone.
