Hip Flashcards
(30 cards)
Type of joint is the hip joint
Synovial, multi axial, ball and socket
Ligaments in anterior and posterior hip joint.
Anterior = iliofemoral + pubofemoral
Posterior = ischiofemoral + inguinal ligament
Origin and insertion of inguinal ligament
Origin = ASIS
Insertion = pubic tubercle
Role of pubofemoral ligament
Limit extension and adduction of hip
Role of ischiofemoral ligament
Stabilise hip + limit hip extension and medial rotation
Role of labrum
Fibrocartilaginous collar surrounding acetabulum, Increases stability by increasing articulation area with head of femur
Muscles of anterior hip and nerve supply + vascular supply
Iliopsoas (iliacus + psoas major)
Femoral nerve and artery
Iliacus origin, insertion and action
O = iliac fossa
I = lesser trochanter of femur
A = hip flexion
Psoas major origin, insertion and action
O = t12-L4 bodies and costal processes of L1-5
I = lesser trochanter of femur
