Q

What is urothelium and what does it line?

A
  • It is a specialised stratified epithelium (transitional epithelium)
  • It has a surface layer of umbrella cells which serves to render the epithelium waterproof
  • Transitions from pseudostratified to stratified (at the surface)
  • Lines collecting part of the urinary tract (renal pelvis, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra)

Q

Why are lymphocytes smaller than nerve cells?

Why do lymphocytes have so little cytoplasm when compared with nerve cells?

A
  • Small lymphocytes are not metabolically active and are poorly differentiated in comparison with nerve cells.
  • As lymphocytes are dormant cells, they have a lesser amount of cytoplasm till stimulated
