Roman Emperor -Charles V was holding the pope prisoner because this obstructed Henry’s request for an annulment of his marriage and o Catherine as Charles V had significant influence over the pope.

Who was Martin Luther? Why was he important?

A

He was a German Monk and theologian whose actions in the 16th century sparked the Protestant reformation and is important for challenging the Catholic church’s teaching and practices mainly for the indulgences and for initiating a religious reform movement that ended up in the creation of Protestantism.

A

Henry thinks his marriage to Katherine is cursed because of the Bible. Meanwhile, people were growing frustrated with corruption in the Catholic Church. William Tyndale wrote a book arguing that the king should lead the church, and with Thomas Cranmer’s support, the book was given to Henry.

A

The church owned 25% of all land and had 10% of all tax pay to it was very rich. Monasteries and Abbey’s had huge wealth and corruption. Henry is short of money from war.
