The modern period saw the establishment of the British rule over India.
• The British brought with them many ideas, customs, and practices- social, political, and economic- that left their mark on the country.
• However, they also exploited the country’s resources for their own gain and crippled Indian Industries.
• Their policies gradually turned India from an exporter of finished goods to an exporter of raw materials and importer of British goods.
• This led to a huge drain of wealth and resources of India.
