John Dalton (start 19th century) - atoms described as solid spheres

JJ Thomson - Plum pudding model, ball of charge with electrons scattered.

Rutherford - Alpha scattering experiment , mass concentrated at the centre, nucleus is charged. Mass of atom is mostly in nucleus, most atoms are empty.

Bohr - electrons in shells orbiting the nucleus

Chadwick ( around 1940) - there are neutrons in the nucleus
