What makes a practice in the church an ordinance?

A

An ordinance is a (1) physical act, (2) ceremonial in nature, (3) commanded and practiced by Jesus, and (4) meant to be perpetuated.

A

Foot washing - symbolizes Jesus present work of sanctification (John 13:1-17)
Love Feast - symbolizes Jesus future work of glorification (1 Cor. 11:20-22, 33-34, Rev. 19, Jude 12)
Bread and cup (Lord’s supper) - symbolizes Jesus past work on the cross of justification (1 cor. 11:23-26)

BREAD DOES NOT SYMBOLIZE BROKEN BODY BC BODY WAS NOT BROKEN. Just breaking bread and sharing together

Communion can only be celebrated with all three parts.

Not for unbelievers (1 Cor. 11:27-29)
