Hoisting Flashcards
(92 cards)
What is the procedure for an indirect deployment of the pump?
- Weak link end connected to weight bag.
- Lower weight bag and trail line to vessel. once vessel crew has weight bag, clear pilot back and left.
- Once trail line is paid all the way out, connect non weak link end to D-rings on the long straps of the bridle.
- FM reports “ready to deploy the pump”.
- Pilot descends to a low hover, no greater than 25 ft and says “deploy the pump”.
- FM deploys pump by pushing on the bottom and clears pilot back and left.
- Once pilot says “cease commands”, FM reports “Hoist complete”.
When using trail line, when is it allowed to attach to rescue hook with device?
Attach the weak link end to small eye of hoist hook, once trail line has been paid all the way out.
When is the HSD used and how long is it?
HSD is 10 ft in length and is used to discharge static electricity by grounding the aircraft through the hoist cable prior to the rescue swimmer coming into contact with water.
Used when thunderstorms are near by.
What are the three methods of survivor recovery during direct deployments?
Quick strop, physical grip, and double lift
How much usable hoist cable in drum?
200 ft
When is part 1 completed?
Part 2?
Part 3?
1: should be accomplished at altitude before the approach to a hover
2: established in a hover
3: after securing all hoist evolutions
The hoist hook SHALL be LOCKED for the following?
- Direct deployments of the RS to a vertical surface.
2. Litter Recoveries
The hoist hook SHOULD be LOCKED for the following?
- Rescue basket deliveries and recoveries.
2. Litter deliveries
The hoist hook SHALL be UNLOCKED for the following?
- Bare hook recoveries of the RS
The hoist hook SHOULD be UNLOCKED for the following?
- All other RS deployments and recoveries.
What device is used for non ambulatory survivors?
Litter
What device is used for ambulatory survivors?
Basket
What can FM do if FM needs to use both hands to bring in a survivor on a litter?
FM can ask the non flying pilot (copilot) to to pay out slack via the cyclic hoist control. Co pilot can adjust the cable IAW the FM’s commands.
Chest retainer straps are mandatory for what type of recovery?
Sling recoveries
Crotch straps are mandatory for what type of recovery?
Quick strop is utilized if survivor is unconscious, unresponsive, or incapacitated.
When shall you not use a trail line to hoist?
When device is being delivered to the water.
How long does the MK25 burn for?
13.5 -18.5 min
How long does the Mk58 burn for?
40 - 60 min
Prior to deployment of the DMB, what must you Note?
4 things
- Record DMB frequency
- Record DMB SN
- Time of deployment
- Position of deployment
Water depth must be greater than 12 ft
Less than 500 ft AWL
Deployment of SLDMB in forward flight may be done, how?
What is the minimum water depth for deployment?
Deployment of SLDMB in a hover?
Height Range of 100 ft- 10,000 ft
Airspeed range of 45 kts - 120 kts
Min water depth is 10 ft
Not allowed to deploy in a hover.
What is the procedure for a deployment of the mass rescue raft?
Set up will be:
- Grab trail line and pay out approximately 3 ft from each end.
- Attach weak link end to raft inflation cable
- Attach weight bag to other end of trail line.
- Bring to cabin door and FM reports, “Rescue checklist complete, ready for deployment of the mass rescue operations raft.”and raft is ready for deployment.
- Pilot will say CONN ME IN and FM will position helicopter upwind of the survivors with altitude less than 25 ft.
- Once raft is in water. FM conns pilot back and left and paying out line. Once the line becomes taught, FM will inflate raft by pulling sharply on line.
- Once raft begins to inflate, FM shall discard the line in the water.
In normal hoist power, what is speed of the hoist cable?
Variable from 0 to 250 fpm
How many feet on both ends of the cable is colored orange?
First and last 20 ft
When using back up hoist power, what is speed of the hoist cable?
Fixed at 85 fpm
