what is reductionism?
reductionism is the view that human behaviour can be explained through reducing behaviour into simpler parts. based on the scientific principle of parsimony- idea all should be explained in the simplest terms possible
what is biological reductionism?
refers to the way biological psychologists reduce behaviour to its physical level- genetics, neurons, neurotransmitters hormones
what is environmental reductionism?
reduces behaviour to a simple stimulus and response learned by associations- behaviourists
what is an example of environmental reductionism?

what are the levels of explanation-rose
rose proposed different levels of explanation. the lowest level is biological explanations, middle level is psychological explanations(cognitive and behavioural). the highest is social and cultural explanations- influence of social groups(DAT theory)
what is holistim
holding is the view that human behaviour should be viewed as a whole integrated experience through not separating its parts
what approach supports holistim?
humanists- maslow proposed higherarchy if needs that consider all contributions to human behaviour - supports through qualitative methods
