Homeostasis Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is homeostasis?
The regulation of the internal environment of a cell or organism to maintain the optimal condition to respond to the internal and external changes
What does homeostasis do within a human body?
- Regulates body temperature
- Blood glucose concentration
- water levels
One way the body does to lose heat and how?
Sweating
Heat is loss as the water evaporates on the surface of skin
Another way the body does to lose heat and how?
Blood vessels dilate, which increases blood flow to the surface, allows the heat in it to dissipate into the surrounding environment.
One way the body does when it’s cold and how?
Shiver
Muscle contractions generate heat
Why does redness appear on our body when it’s hot?
Because of the dilation of the blood vessels
What is negative feedback?
When a change is detected, a response is triggered to try to reverse it to bring the conditions back to normal
What is positive feedback?
Increasing the change in body by increasing the response, bring the conditions far from the normal level
