homeostasis cell struc & Function Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is Homeostasis
the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.
what is two examples of Homeostasis
the regulation of temperature, maintaining healthy blood pressure, maintaining calcium levels, regulating water levels, defending against viruses and bacteria.
Define Cell Theory
A cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms. Robert Hooke first used the term “cell.”
what are basic types of the cell
A plasma membrane is a special boundary that helps control what enters and leaves the cell.
what is eukaryotic cells
eukaryotic cells are cells that contain a nucleus and other organelles.
what are organelles
are specialized structures that perform specific cell functions.
what is plasma membrane
a microscopic membrane of lipids and proteins which forms the external boundary of the cytoplasm of a cell or encloses a vacuole, and regulates the passage of molecules in and out of the cytoplasm.
what are the structures of plasma membrane
he plasma membrane also contains cholesterol, proteins, and carbohydrates.
