Honors Biology Unit 1.5 Flashcards
(17 cards)
What is a dependent variable?
The variable that changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation.
What is the variable that changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation?
Dependent Variable
What is a independent variable?
A variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure.
What is a control group?
Something that receives a placebo or (a person that might be asked to maintain their normal lifestyle).
What is something that receives a placebo or (a person that might be asked to maintain their normal lifestyle)?
Control Group
What is a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure?
Independent Variable
What is a Experimental Group?
An experimental group, also known as a treatment group, receives the treatment whose effect researchers wish to study, whereas a control group does not
What is a group, also known as a treatment group, receives the treatment whose effect researchers wish to study, whereas a control group does not?
Experimental Group
Which graph axis dependent and independent variables would go on?
The independent variable belongs on the x-axis (horizontal line) of the graph and the dependent variable belongs on the y-axis (vertical line).
The independent variable belongs on the x-axis (horizontal line) of the graph and the dependent variable belongs on the y-axis (vertical line) is an example of what?
Where the graph axis is independent and dependent variables would be organized.
Whats an example of a control?
Sugar Pill, Placebo, etc.
Whats a example of an experimental group?
What is being tested and receiving the experiment.
Whats an example of a independent variable?
What is not being changed.
Whats an example of a dependent variable?
What is being changed.
Whats the difference between a dependent and independent variable?
They both focus on different sectors of an experiment, for example, independent variables are keeping a constant standard.
“Students who eat breakfast will perform better on a math exam than students who do not eat breakfast.” (Identify where each variable and different groups are)
Independent Variables, (Students not eating breakfast.)
Dependent Variables, (Students eating breakfast.)
Experimental Group, (Students that will eat breakfast.)
Control Group., (Students that will not eat breakfast.)
