Q

What are the consequences of loan parent households?

A
  1. Many contribute to creating under class of socially deprived people in society. (under class implies the long-term ppl)
  2. Social stigma attached to these fams—-> as considered to having adverse influence on children’s development
  3. Loan parent mothers especially targeted for being unfit parents.
However many charges against loan parent households are unfounded
  4. Conservative politicians branded 2 parent family as ideal model.
John Major’s conservative government + labour government 1998 green paper focused on marriage as the surest foundation for raising children
  5. May lead to psychological trauma for children being raised in them.
-Might be related to absence of the second parent
    -Economically depressed situation of children
-or child being exposed to a lot of frustration on part of remaining loan parent

David Morgan suggested that children of lone parent households are less well educated than two parent households. This trauma might affect the education development of the child.

But in 2000 it decreased to 27%

David Morgan
States terms such as a illegitimate children and unmarried mothers are not used anymore
This could be due to the weakened control of religion +community control over women

A
