How do people learn Flashcards
AOS2 Unit 3 (17 cards)
What is classical conditioning?
A simple form of learning, which occurs through repeated association of two different stimuli to produce a naturally occuring response.
What is the Pavlov’s dog experiment?
An experiment where Pavlov conditiioned his dogs to salivate at the sound of a bell. This lead to the theory of classical conditioning.
What is behaviourism?
A psychological approach that proposed learning occurs by interacting with the external environment.
What is neural stimulus (NS)?
Produces no significant response prior to conditioning.
What is unconditioned stimulus (UCS)?
Produces an unconsious response
What is unconditioned response (UCR)?
A naturally occuring behaviour in response to stimuli.
What is conditioned stimulus (CS)?
Produces a conditioned response after being repeatedly paired with unconditioned stimulus.
What is a conditioned response (CR)?
Occurs involuntarily after the conditioned stimulus is presented.
When are behaviours likely to be repeated?
When consequences are desirable.
What is operant conditioning?
A learning process in which the likelihood of a particular behaviour occuring is determined by the consequences of that behaviour.
When is behaviour not likely to be repeated?
When consequences are undesirable.
What is the three-phase model?
Antecedent,Behaviour and consequence.
What is Antecedent?
Stimulus/event that precedes and often elicits a particular behaviour.
What is behaviour?
The voluntary actions that occur in the presence of the antecedent.
What is consequence?
The outcome of the behaviour which determines if it will happen again.
