How do spits form ? Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Describe the formation of a spit (5pts)
A
- Longshore drift carries sand and shingle along the coast.
- Where the coast curves inward, sediment carries on being deposited in open water.
- A narrow path of material extends, it is a spit.
- Another wind or wave direction makes the end of the spit curve inland.
- The outgoing river current stops the spit from blocking the estuary ( path between two shores, river)
