Q

Describe the formation of a spit (5pts)

A
  1. Longshore drift carries sand and shingle along the coast.
  2. Where the coast curves inward, sediment carries on being deposited in open water.
  3. A narrow path of material extends, it is a spit.
  4. Another wind or wave direction makes the end of the spit curve inland.
  5. The outgoing river current stops the spit from blocking the estuary ( path between two shores, river)
