A

Had a very harsh action/punishment towards all the poor . Henry VII and Henry VIII tried to create laws that dealt with poverty

How were the poor categorised

A

‘Helpless’ , poor sick and old who were given food and accommodation in almshouses
‘Able bodied’ , poor those considered fit who had to work in exchange for charity/food
‘Idle’ poor who were lazy/refuse to work who were punished or sent to a house of correction (prison)

What else helped the poor

A

Almshouses buildings that specifically provided food and accommodation for homeless/poor people will set up in each parish for the elderly or sick to work in

A

I knew tax was introduced which provided the funding for these measures to be put into place. The tax was called the poor rate and was charged to the wealthy
