What is the importance of human resource management?

A

All LSOs find it important to have high productivity, satisfy profit wants and to care for the wellbeing of their employees. Human resource management is concerned with training/developing and taking to employees so that they are skilled enough to work productively, increase sales and keep safe whilst doing so also keeping them motivated and happy so they perform optimally. Therefore if human resource management is done properly then employees will work productively and hence increase sales to satisfy profit wants and good employer-employee relations are present.

A

Effective management of employees, the human resource in an organisation. It is concerned with the formal relationship between employer and employee.
It involves the coordination of all activities that relate to to acquiring, developing, maintaining and terminating employees.

A

All or most businesses have the objective of increasing productivity and maximising profit also to keep employees happy and maintain good employee/employer relations these objectives are set by management including HR management. Ultimately, it is the employees job to achieve the objectives set by the organisation. HR management is responsible for controlling the employees and implementing business strategies to help them achieve objectives.

What are conditions of employment?

A

Conditions of employment refer to what an employer has agreed to give an employee in return for the employees work. Some basic conditions could be; expected hours, long-service leave or public holidays. Under the Fair Work Act (2009) The Australian government has said that all business must abide by their set 10 minimum workplace entitlements.

What is Occupational Health and Safety?

A

OH and S refers to the responsibility that an employer has to make sure that the workplace is safe for all employees and that steps are taken to minimise harm. It involves having a safe physical environment and ensuring the appropriate training has been done so all employees know how to operate safely. Under the Work and Safety Act (2011) by the Australian government, all organisations are to follow OH and S rules and must have appropriate OH and S for their workplace.

What is job security?

A

Job security is the degree of certainty that an employees job will be available in the future. This certainty can depend on the industry, impact of technology and economic conditions etc. Organisations can increase job security by using long-term contracts and by trying to develop their business so that it is sustainable.

What is work-life balance?

A

Work life balance is the recognition that employees come with responsibilities outside of their working life’s…such as; family, friends and other interests. This expectation involves achieving the right amount of time for work and the right time for an employees outside life. LSOs can improve work life balance by making it possible for employees to work at home or job share for example.

A

Ethics are the moral guidelines organisations should follow. It refers to the right actions and behaviours a business displays. In terms of human resource management, managers can be ethical by being diverse in their recruiting.

What is social responsibility? How can HR managers be socially responsible?

A

Social responsibility is what an organisation can do to go beyond what is required by law, in order to give back to the employees, community or environment they operate in. In terms of HR management, managers can be socially responsible by offering employees volunteer leave. So if an employee was to volunteer for SES then they would be permitted to do so by their business.
