How many bones in the human body?
206
Bones can be classified into five types. They are
long, short, flat, irregular and sessamoid.
Long bones are a class of bone which include
metacarpals of hands and metatarsals of feet.
Flat bones are a class of bone which includes
cranial bones and scapula, and offer protection and large muscle attachments.
Irregular bones are a class of bone
which are generally complex in design and serve specialised purposes
The axial skeleton includes the
skull, the vertebral column, and the thoracic rib cage.
The appendicular skeleton includes the
pelvic and pectoral girdles, as well as the upper and lower limb bones.
The pectoral girdle is composed of the
clavicle and scapular bones.
The pelvic girdle is composed of
two coxal bones
Bones of the upper limbs include the
humerus, radius, ulna, carpals(8), metacarpals and phalanges(2-3-3-3-3) of the hand.
Bones of the lower limbs include the
femur, tibia, fibula, patella, tarsals (7), Metatarsals and foot phalanges.
The skull, is composed of
cranial bones and facial bones.
The names of cranial bones are
parietal, frontal, temporal, occipital, sphenoid and ethmoid.
Sutures are immovable joints found only between
skull bones and hold skull bones together.
Cavities in the scull bones are known as
sinuses.
There are what and how many vertebra?
7 cervical vertebra, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebra and 5 fused sacral vertebra.
The first 7 pairs of ribs are called
true ribs; the remaining 5 pairs called false ribs.
A downward movement of a part of the body is called
depression.
what is Eversion
is a movement of the soles laterally so that they face away from each other.
Ballet dancers often stand on their toes, this movement at the ankle is known as .
plantar flexion
Movement of the forearm when the palm is turned upwards as if to receive something is known as
supination.
The bowling action in cricket of your arm indicates
circumduction at the shoulder joint.
Name the 7 tarsal bones:
Talus, calcaneous, cuboid, 3 cuniform (medial, intermediate, lateral) and navicular
How does rotation differ from circumduction?
Rotation is rotation of the bone on its long axis, circumduction is successive, flexion, extension, abduction followed by adduction.
