Human Circulatory System Flashcards
(28 cards)
Closed network of organs and blood vessels, its overall purpose is to maintain homeostasis
Human Circulatory System
The ability of a system to maintain balance or a constant internal environment such as proper body temperature, amount of water in the body and pH level in spite of the environment
Homeostasis
A hollow muscular organ that pumps blood through blood vessels by repeated rhythmic contractions
Heart
Its role is to transports blood containing the nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and other waste materials
Ta or Transports
Its role is to maintains proper body temperature - thermoregulation
Ma or Maintains
Its role is to protects the body against infections
Pa or Protects
Its role is to balance the amount of fluids in the body
Ba or Balance
Outer protective layer of the heart
Epicardium
Muscular middle layer of the heart and the thickest layer
Myocardium
Thin inner layer of the heart
Endocardium
The two chambers of the heart
Upper Chamber and Lower Chamber
The upper chambers of the heart are called
Atrium or Atria
Receive blood flowing back to the heart
Atrium or Atria
Receives the majority of the blood going back to the heart
Right Atria
The lower chambers of the heart are called
Ventricle
It pumps the blood out of the heart
Ventricle
Separates the left and right side of the heart
Septum
The body has 3 types of blood vessels
Artery, Vein, and Capillary
It’s a blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart except for the pulmonary artery
Artery
It’s a blood vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the different parts of the body except the pulmonary artery
Vein
It’s a blood vessel that takes care of the diffusion of gasses and nutrients from blood to cells of the body, it is the smallest and thinnest blood vessel
Capillary
It is called to the opening of the blood vessels
Lumen
It’s a blood vessel that has a small and narrow opening
Artery
It’s a blood vessel that has a large opening
Vein
