Q

What does the brain do?

A

Draws information together from all over the body and sends information back out to the body in response

Q

What is the PNS?

A

Web of nerves carrying information together and from the CNS to the rest of the body

12
Q

What is the role of the CNS?

A

When the body receives information from the senses, the PNS sends it to the CNS

Q

What does the brain process?

A

All the information from the senses and generates a response

14
Q

Example of the CNS’ role?

A

Tap on the shoulder -> receptor nerves (part of the PNS) send the information to the CNS.
Information passes through the spinal cord and into the brain
Touch is processed-> brain generates response

16
Q

What does the spinal cord allow in terms of bodily processes?

A

Allows the brain to monitor/regulate bodily processes

17
Q

What does the spinal cord connect to?

A

The spinal nerves which connect to muscles and glands

18
Q

What does the spinal cord contain?

A

Circuit of nerves which allow reflexes to be performed

19
Q

Role of the somatic nervous system?

A

Carry sensory information
Provide muscle responses

20
Q

What 2 things does the somatic nervous system have and what are their roles?

A

Sensory receptors- carry information to spinal cord and brain
Motor pathways- allow brain to control movement

21
Q

What does the somatic nervous system do regarding information?

A

Transmits information to and from the senses and to and from the CNS and the outside world

22
Q

What does the autonomic nervous system do?

A

Transmits information to and from internal organs to sustain life (made up of motor pathways)
Homeostasis- carries out actions without conscious awareness

23
Q

What 2 systems does the autonomic nervous system branch off into?

A

Sympathetic
Parasympathetic

24
Q

Does sympathetic increase or decrease bodily activity?

25
Does parasympathetic increase or decrease bodily activity?
Decrease
26
What does sympathetic do?
Fight/flight response Prepares you to stay (fight) or run away (flight) E.g. pupils dilating, accelerating heart rate
27
What does parasympathetic do?
Maintains homeostasis Reduces body activities that have been increased by the sympathetic Slow heart rate
