What does the CNS do
Acts as an information processing and control center, for information we receive and responses that we make in our environment
What does the Brain do
The brain processes, sees and responds to information
What does the spinal cord do
The spinal cord contains the nerves that carry messages between the brain and the body
What does the peripheral nervous system do and what is it made up of
PNS made up of nerve all over the body, activating the PNS makes the body do what the brain tells it to., PNS consists if 12 pairs of cranial nerves (head and neck), and 31 pairs of spinal neves (branch off spine onto rest of body)
What does the somatic nervous system do
Transmits information to and from the senses and CNS to the outside world. It has sensory receptors (which carry info to spinal cord and brain) and motor pathways (which allow brain to control movement)
What does the automatic nervous do? And what is it made up of?
Transmits information to and from internal organs to sustain life. Plays an important part of homeostasis, carries out actions without your conscious awareness. Is made up of motor pathways.
What does the sympathetic nervous system do?
Increases bodily activity and is involved in flight or flight. Pupils dilate, heat rate increases.
What does the parasympathetic nervous system do?
Maintains normal bodily activity (homeostasis), reduces the activities of the body that have been increased by the sympathetic nervous system (slowed heartbeat, constricts bronchi)
