Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
- Excitement
- Plateau
- Orgasm
- Resolution
Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
It occurs with physical and psychological stimulation that causes parasympathetic nerve stimulation (sight, sound, emotion, or thought)
Excitement
Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
This leads to arterial dilation and venous constriction in the genital area; the blood supply in this area increases resulting in vasocongestion and increase muscular tension
Excitement
Excitement in women, vasocongestion results in
- Increased clitoris size
- Increased mucus in vagina
- Vagina widens its diameter and length
- Erect nipples
- Increased cardiac and RR
Excitement in men, vasocongestion results in
Erection of the penis and nipples
There is scrotal thickening and testicle elevation
Increased cardiac and RR
Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
The stage is reached just before the orgasm
Plateau
Plateau of women
Clitoris is drawn forward and retracts under the clitoral prepuce
Lower part of female vagina becomes congested
There is increased nipple engorgement
Plateau of men
Vasocongestion leads in full distention of the penis
Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
It occurs when stimulation proceeds through the plateau stage to a point at which the body suddenly discharges accumulated sexual tension
Orgasm
Human Sexual Response: 4 Stages
A vigorous contraction of muscles in the pelvic area dissipates blood and fluid from the area of congestion
Orgasm
