  • Hypertensive disease during a previous pregnancy
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematosis or antiphospholipid syndrome
  • Type 1 or type 2 diabetes
  • Chronic hypertension

Women with PET and recurrence risk

A
  • Gestational hypertension in a future pregnancy ranges from about 1 in 8 (13%) to about 1 in 2 (53%) pregnancies
  • Pre-eclampsia in a future pregnancy is up to about 1 in 6 (16%) pregnancies
  • Pre-eclampsia in a future pregnancy is about 1 in 4 (25%) pregnancies if their pre-eclampsia was complicated by severe pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome or eclampsia and led to birth before 34 weeks, and about 1 in 2 (55%) pregnancies if it led to birth before 28 weeks.

Hypertension in pregnancy

A
  • 1 in 20 (5%) of PET pts are admitted to ITU
  • 1 in 20 stillbirths are to pts with PET
  • 1 in 250 (0.4%) in their first pregnancy will give birth before 34 weeks as a consequence of pre-eclampsia - 8 –10% of all preterm births result from hypertensive disorders
  • Half of women with severe pre-eclampsia give birth preterm
  • 20–25% of preterm births and 14–19% of term births in women with pre-eclampsia are less than the tenth centile of birth weight for gestation

75 mg aspirin

A
  • First pregnancy
  • Age 40 years or older
  • Pregnancy interval of more than 10 years
  • Body mass index (BMI) of 35 kg/m2 or more at first visit
  • Family history of pre-eclampsia
  • Multiple pregnancy.
