a prediction of what your experiment will find out or acccomplish

states which way the research will go because we have knowledge or research on the subject
> eg. Chinese students will achieve higher IQ test scores than french students

A
doesn’t state which way the research will go as there is no previous research to support
> eg. there will be a difference in IQ test results between Chinese or French students

looking at how one variable influences another
> eg. as stress increases so will illness

> eg. there will be a difference in A level grades between girls and boys
