IB-9 Musculoskeletal Risks & Controls Flashcards
(9 cards)
outline the main risk factors associated with the development of WRULD
Force / time / frequency / posture / pace / repetition / rests / individual
identify the factors that should be considered when completing an ergonomic assessment
consider
- the job
- the individual
- environment
job - duration / posture / force / movements / repetition / pace
individual - physical attributes (height, weight age, reach) mental abilities and skills / specific groups such as the young / level of training received
environmental - space / temperature / humidly / lighting
outline the risk factors for manual handling tasks
task - lift / move / pace / frequency & breaks
load - size / shape / weight / centre of gravity
environment - indoor or outdoor / weather / space constraints / lighting / noise / temperature
individual - physique / fitness / health / ability
outline the control measures for manual handling tasks
elimination / mechanical aids / manual handling aids / training (team lifting , signage, staff selection) / occupational health policies
outline the ill effects that may arise from the use of display screen equipment
musculoskeletal injuries and discomfort / eye and eye sight effects / fatigue and stress
outline the factors to be considered in the assessment of workstations for display screen equipment and use of laptops
equipment - screen / keyboard / mouse / document holder / desk / chair / foot rest all have their own standards
environment - lighting most important / noise / radiation / heating
laptops - how are they carried / set up / trained / mouse, key board set top box or riser provided
outline what is WRULD and the ill health conditions associated with it
WRULD is a collection of conditions which effect the arms wrists and hands
carpel tunnel syndrome (inflammation of a nerve in the wrist which causes a tingling feeling, pins and needles in the fingers and arm pain)
Tenosynovitis (inflammation of the tendons in the forearm which make finger movement difficult and painfull)
can require corrective surgery and can lead to disability
what are the risk reduction measures for WRULD
ergonomic design of tasks and tool / job rotation / adjusting the work routine / training / comfortable temperature / individual capabilities
Give the meaning of the term ergonomics
Designing the workplace, work methods & equipment to suit the user ensuring a good fit
