Q

What communication systems are used in newsletters?

A

newsletters and posters can be produced very easily using a word processor. Often the newsletter or poster will have phots which have been taken specially or have been downloaded from the internet.
The communication method:
- First a word processor application would be opened
- Photos can be obtained by: using a digital camera and taking photos, searching for images/photos on the internet or using hard copy photos
- If necessary camera images would then be uploaded to the computer via a USB port
- Photos from all selected sources would then be saved to a file on the HDD or SSD
- Photos will then be imported from the file store
- Once imported, photos will then be needed to be cropped
- Text would be typed in using a keyboard
- Photos will need to be placed in the correct position and the text wrapped
- The document will undergo proof reading for errors

Q

How do multi-media presentations work?

A

These are presentations that use animations, video, sound and music that are generally more interesting than static presentations
Produced using one of many software packages on the market and then used by a multimedia projector so the whole audience is able to see the presenation

A

Advantages:
- Use of sound and animation effects are more likely to grab readers and the attention of the audience
- Possible to have interactive hyperlinks which means file can be accessed onto he cloud
- Can be interactive
Disadvantages:
- A need to have special equipment which can be expensive
- The equipment could fail while presenting the presentation
- Very easy to make a bad presentation with too many animation effects

Q

How do mobile phones communicate?

A

They communicate by using towers inside many cells networked together to cover large areas. The tower allows the transmission of data throughout the mobile phone network

Q

What is SMS and it benefits?

A

Allows a very quick communication with another person by typing on a keyboard
* Privacy. The majority of messaging apps out there are largely based on social media networks, and social media accounts can naturally be a cause for concern when it comes to protecting your privacy
* Inclusivity.
* Safety.

Q

What are phone calls and there benefits?

A

They are small so they have their own power source. Keeping in touch with someone anywhere, provided there is a network signal
* No need to look for a public telephone in an emergency
* Possible to conduct business on phone calls
. Easier to keep in contact with people

Q

What is video calling and its benefits?

A

Require user to download an app- both theses options use microphones, speakers and a camera. Video calls permit: live video and audio chat, screen-sharing during the call and recoding during sessions
* Improves communication.
* Helps build relationships.
* Saves money.
* Saves time.
* Streamlines collaboration.
* Improves efficiency.
* Increases productivity.
. Makes scheduling meetings easier.

Q

What is internet access and its benefit?

A

A mobile network, also known as a cellular network, enables wireless communication between many end users, and across vast distances, by transmitting signals using radio waves.
. Less expensive
. Lower power consumption
. Quality of service is good

16
Q

Define the term simulation.

A

Is the creation of a model of a real system in order to study the behaviour of a computer

17
Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of computer modelling?

A

Advantages:
- Less expensive than having to build the real thing
- Safer to use
- Allows you to try out various different scenarios in advance
- It is often faster
Disadvantages:
- Sometimes more expensive
- Depends on good programming and data entered
- People reaction as the result of the simulation may not be positive

18
Q

Why and how would i use a financial model?

A

Some of the reasons a firm might create a financial model include the need to raise capital, grow the business organically, sell or divest business units, allocate capital, budget, forecast, or value a business. Use on a spreadsheet

19
Q

What scenarios does a building or bridge design model allow me to plan for?

A

The amount of traffic that might be caught on a traffic jam on the bridge on an event of an accident, the effect of earthquakes, effect of tidal waves, effect of vibrations

20
Q

What features does a computer model provide?

A
  • Possible to zoom into images
  • Design can be rotated in a number of different ways
  • Expensive and dangerous
21
Q

How is computer modelling used in water management?

A

To predict water levels, water flows and potential flooding depths

22
Q

How is modelling used to manage repairs and motorway lanes?

A

Modelling helps in planning when repairs are needed, simulating traffic flow to manage lane closures, choosing the best repair strategies, comparing repair costs with benefits, and assessing risks to ensure safe repairs.

23
Q

What 3 things should I consider for this simulation?

A

Traffic Patterns: Understand the typical traffic patterns at the intersection, including peak hours, pedestrian flows, and any unique traffic characteristics
Intersection Geometry: Consider the layout and geometry of the intersection, including the number of lanes, turning lanes, presence of pedestrian crossings, and any special features like bike lanes or bus stops
Traffic Light Control Algorithms: Choose or develop appropriate traffic light control algorithms based on the specific needs of the intersection.

24
Q

What data do I need to collect for a weather model?

A

Meteorological Observations: This includes data such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction, precipitation (rain, snow, etc.), and cloud cover. These observations can be collected from weather stations, satellites, radar systems, and other instruments.

Surface Characteristics: Information about the terrain, land use, and surface properties (such as soil type and vegetation) is important for understanding how weather systems interact with the Earth’s surface. This data helps in modeling processes like evaporation, surface heating, and runoff.

25
Q

Why would I collect the data using sensors rather than a human?

A

Using sensors to collect weather data is better than relying on humans because sensors provide accurate and continuous measurements, can be placed in remote or dangerous areas, follow standardized procedures, are cost-effective in the long run, and their data is easy to integrate into weather models for analysis and forecasting.

26
Q

How are weather models displayed usually?

A

Weather models are usually displayed on maps, charts, and graphs, showing things like temperature, precipitation, and wind. They can also be shown through animations, text forecasts, and specialized apps for different users
