Q

What is Phase all about

A

Determining whether the alternative alleles for two loci are in the same or different chromosomes (Coupling = the same. Repulsion = Opposites)

3
Q

Generic explanation of genetic mapping studies

A

Testing markers on different chromosomes looking for evidence of linkage to the disease. Typically need multiple affected family members for this approach. The marker is NOT the same as the diseased gene.

Q

How to interpret a LOD score

A

(Likelihood of linkage)/(likelihood of no linkage)
Over 3 = Good Evidence of Linkage
Over 1 = Positive
Under 1 = Negative
