What is meant by Being British?
Having a sense of belonging to the British society
What are Economical migrants?
People who move somewhere with more job opportunities, to earn more money for a better life
What is an Asylum seeker?
Refugees trying to get given the right to stay in a host country
What is Political asylum?
People who move to get away from persecution
What is Multiculturalism?
Where a country or place is made up of many different cultures
What can Multiculturalism bring?
Different traditions, faiths, food & music
What does Community cohesion do?
It brings together people with different identities
What promotes Community cohesion?
Education, Language classes, ‘Life in the UK’ test, allotment projects
Give an example of Different People bringing Different Skills and Ideas to the Community?
French Businessmen brought their trading knowledge in the 13th century & started London’s Financial services

Gurkha Soldiers in Nepal have been part of the British Army for almost 200 years
What will the Police do regarding the Justice System?
They can Arrest, Question & Charge you, can be questioned up to 24 hours, but can be longer if they have a reason to believe you’ve done something really bad, can charge you if they have enough evidence
What rights to you have while in custody?
You don’t have to answer any questions, right to see a solicitor free of charge, police cant question you if your under 17 unless a parent guardian or other adult who knows you is present
What happens in magistrates Court?
Your charge is read out, you’ll be remanded on bail, if magistrate thinks there’s a good chance you’ll re-offend or wont show up, you’ll be remanded in custody until your trial
What happens in the Crown Prosecution Service?
Decides whether someone should be prosecuted, evidence is examined and decision is made whether its strong enough to prove you did the crime
When will the Crown Prosecution Service only prosecute?
There’s a better than 50-50 chance of conviction, and if the crime is serious enough for taking it to court to be in the public interest
What does the Court do?
Decides whether a suspect is Innocent or Guilty
What are Magistrates?
Respected members of the community who are part-time and unpaid, they’ll be tow or three magistrates on each case and they’re advised on the law by a legally-qualified court clerk
Where are Nearly all criminal cases dealt at?
Magistrates court
Where are more serious cases dealt|?
Crown court
What is a jury made up of?
12 adults aged 18-70
What does the jury represent?
A cross-section of the general public
Who can be summoned for jury service?
Anyone without a criminal record or a mental illness
What does the jury do?
They decide the verdict on whether the defendant is guilty or innocent, at least ten jurors have to agree with the decision
What does the International Humanitarian Law protect?
They protect human rights of individuals in peace and in conflict
