Tread water
He is just treading water untill he finds another job

The ability of someone to take on more tasks, usually used to describe when you don’t have the bandwidth to do sth
Example: i dont have the bandwidth to take on another project right now
Move the needle
Make a significant impact or progress
When someone says “let’s move the needle on this project,” they are urging the team to take actions that will produce a clear, positive impact on the project’s outcome
I’ve been involved in social entrepreneurship, and when I talk about them, I often say my projects “truly move the needle”.
Burn the boats
“Burning the boats” is an idiom that means making a commitment so absolute that there is no possibility of returning to a previous situation. It’s about eliminating any safety nets or escape routes to force total focus and dedication to a new path or goal. The phrase is often used in the context of leadership, entrepreneurship, or personal transformation
