2
Q

What are the characteristics of innate immune response?

A
  • Non-specific
  • Very rapid
  • Present in all animals
  • Has both physical & blood-borne barriers
  • No memory

Q

What are the characteristics of adaptive immune response?

A
  • Specific
  • Slower than innate
  • Recognises specific pathogens via receptors
  • Found in vertebrates.
  • Has memory
  • Has a cellular component (cytokines) and a humoral component (antibodies)

Q

What is the difference between cell-mediated and humoral immune response?

A

Cell-mediated immune response uses cytokines & kills pathogens while humoral immune response uses antibodies & chemicals.

Q

When the pathogen enters via mucosa, where & how is the immune response produced?

A

From Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) that recognises the pathogen & allows the pathogen to enter Peyer’s patch. Peyer’s patch is connected to the mesenteric lymph node so it can produce an immune response.
