Everybody has heard the expression the cost of something is an “arm and a leg”. Henry Ford the founder of the Ford Motor Company was the first to come up with the saying when he first started the company over a hundred years ago, which is ironic because that’s what it seems to cost to get in one of their new vehicles.

According to R. Banham in “The Ford Century” in 2002 the company was started by Henry Ford and 11 investors on June 16th 1903. They began the company with only 28,000 dollars and a small converted wagon factory in the middle of Detroit, Michigan Henry Ford the founder of the Ford Motor Company sought after what no one else in the automobile business has, which was an affordable automobile for the common man.

A

Ford expanded its manufacturing capabilities soon after the beginning to the 1st world war. They was able to produce between 20,000 to 30,000 Model “T’s” that was used overseas during the war. In effect from that the allies gained an advantage due to the model “T’s” durability in all terrains.

As shown in the timeline on the Ford website 2016 between the years 1918 and 1925 Ford began to manufacture antisubmarine boats and their new tri motor airplanes.

Ford has been setting standards for automobiles for the past century, in mid-1964 Ford introduced the Mustang “The car that sat the standard for American muscle cars to date”.

In recent years Ford has developed the new turbo Eco boost motor that maintain the ford power we all came to love but increased the fuel mileage due to the Act that the “EPA” and the Obama administration placed in 2011.

The Ford Motor Company has been to the bottom of the barrel a few occasions during its time, alike many other automobile manufacturing companies have, But because Ford strive to new heights and expand their business aspects they are able to pull themselves back to the top every time.

Ford was one of the first automobile manufactures to use an assembly line to manufacture the vehicles, which cut the time of assembly in half from 12 hours to 5 ½ hours. The concept came to Henry while he was touring a meat packing plant in Chicago.

For the mustangs 40th anniversary Ford introduce the GT line as their new standard for sports cars. According to D. Brinkley in the “ Wheels for the world” in 2004 the mustang GT design was based on the Ford GT40 which was the racecar that broke Ferrari’s six year winning streak in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and kept it for four races from 1966 to 1968. Making Ford the first ever American manufacture to ever win the 24 hours of Le Mans.
