Q
Why are cancer cells used to make monoclonial antibodies?
A
>
- Scientists fuse these B cells with mouse (cancer) cells to create hybridomas, which divide uncontrollably
B cells produce (monoclonal) antibody;
2
Q
What are Anti-toxins?
A
Anti-toxins are a type of antibody that neutralise toxins produced by pathogens (typically bacteria).
3
Q
what do anti-toxins do?
A
> The anti-toxin (antibody) binds specifically to the toxin via its variable region (antigen-binding site).
The antibody-toxin complex is recognised by phagocytes and removed from circulation via phagocytosis.
