A

while on holiday in Crimea, Gorbachev was put under house arrest and emergency state control was taken over by vice president, head of KGB and defence minister.

Key impact if the August Coup

A

Yeltsin stood against plotters enhancing his reputation and demanded Gorbachev be released

due to this enhance in position Yeltsin then imposed a series of measures that helped end soviet union e.g. market reforms

monopoly of party legally ended (although ended already by Gorbachev)

November communist party banned from soviet union within Russia

Yeltsin undermined the new union treaty than organised commonwealth of independent states which ended the soviet union.
