What does a type A, Ad, Add & As tympanogram mean?
A - normal range A(s) - very shallow peak Associated with otosclerosis It can also occur with otitis media A(d) - very high (deep) peaks Found in otherwise normal ears that had scarred or flaccid eardrums Also found in cases of ossicular interruptions A(dd) So deep that peak is off the scale Found in ears with ossicular discontinuities
28
What does a type B tympanogram mean?
- Essentially flat across the pressure range - Characteristic of patients with middle ear fluid and cholesteatoma - It could also be caused by eardrum perforations or impacted cerumen (or other obstructions) in the ear canal
29
What does a type C tympanogram mean?
- Negative pressure peaks beyond -100 daPa - Indicating negative ear pressure - Associated with eustachian tube disorders - Also found in cases of middle ear fluid
30
What does tympanometric peak pressure tell us, and what are the norms?
Tells us: Norms: -100 to +50 daPa
31
What does ear canal volume tell us, and what are the norms?
Tells us: Norms: 0.9 - 2.0 ml
32
What does the typanogram width tell us, and what are the norms?
Tells us: Norms: 50 - 115 daPa
33
What does static admittance tell us, and what are the norms?
Tells us: Norms: 0.3 - 1.7 mL
