What is the religious significance of the icthus?
Greek word for fish
The words is an acronym in Greek meaning: Jesus, Christ, son of God, Savior

Alpha:

Symbolises how Jesus is the beginning of all things.

Symbolises how Jesus is the end of all things
Overall shows that Jesus is eternal
What does Luke 1: 26-28 teach us? (When the angel appear to Mary)
- Mary is going to give birth to a son whom she will name Jesus
- Mary’s son will be the Son of God - he is fully God as well as fully human (“He will be great and will be called the son of the Most high.”
- The child will be conceived through the holy spirt (Not via sexual intercourse) Showing that Jesus is fully God.
What does Matthew 1:18-24 teach us? (Joseph)
- Mary is going to give birth to a son whom Joseph will name Jesus
- The child will be conceived through the holy spirit showing that Jesus is fully God
- Jesus will play a special role for God’s people. (“He will save his people from their sins”)
What does John 1:1-4,14 teach us? (John prologue)
- Jesus (The word) is eternal he has always existed and was with the father “In the beginning”
- Jesus is fully God and has equal power to God the father
- Jesus took on human form in order to reveal God to us. “The word became flesh”

How does Jesus show he was Son of Man in Mark 8:31?
In Mark 8:31 Jesus uses the title “Son of man” when speaking to himself. In particular he is talking about how he was going to suffer and be crucified
How does Jesus show that he is son of God in Mark 14:61-62?
In Mark 14:61-62 Jesus is asked “are you the son of God” To which is confirms by saying “I am” In the Bible it indicates God’s name. Jesus used it and applies it to himself.

What are examples of the beatitudes?
“Blessed are the merciful for they will receive mercy.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called “Children of God.”
Jesus’ points is that Christians shouldn’t just follow the law but focus on improving their attitude.
What are examples of the sheep and Goat?
- I was hungry and you gave me food
- I was thirsty and you gave me drink
- I was a stranger and you welcomed me
Christians are influenced by this parable to take care of those in need - eg by giving food to the hungry or take care of the sick
