Q

Explain how the Indian standard meridian came about

A

There are about 30 lines of longitudes cutting through India, this means that India has 30 local times
when a railway is set to arrive at 8am, there would be confusion because different places would have their 8am. To avoid this confusion, local time of the central meridian is taken as the time for the whole country.
In india, since the longitude 82*30’E passes through Mirzapur, the local time in mizapur is taken as the international time.
