Bao Dai was deeply unpopular, his government had no appeal to most poepl but Ho focused on education, healthcare and housing so had great appeal to the peasantry

Viet Minh military general, grew the army from 5000 to 250,000, very fair and tactical leader
battle of dien bien phu
1954, french built a fortress to stop the viet minh invading Laos and to create a set peice battle, they believed they could last indefinitely but the vietnamese broke down their guns and carried them up the hill and bombarded from higher ground
