A

Who are the Aryans?

A

The Aryans were a group of Indo-European-speaking nomadic people whom began to move out of Central Asia. They eventually migrated to Deccan Plateau, developing an agriculturally based society, who also began a new writing system called Sanskrit.

What was the Shang Dynasty?

A

The Shang Dynasty was a very popular dynasty in ancient China, famous for its unique systematic belief. That belief was centered around the ideology of having a life after death. Thus one is expected to treat their ancestors with respect, because having good or bad fortune in that persons life is dependent of how well they treated their ancestors.

What is the Dynastic cycle?

A

This was the cycle in which a new ruler or dynasty was chosen based off of the Mandate of Heaven. Then they would establish their power, and once they’re suspected of “losing their Mandate of Heaven,” (usually one is suspected of this if a disaster occurs over the kingdom) they are overthrown and replaced starting the cycle once more.

A

The ideology that the emperor was the link between heaven and earth, thus the emperor had the authority to rule on earth.

A

Filial piety refers to the duties of every member of the family, although they had to express their individual interest to the eldest or male leader of the family. It gave family members a way for everyone to contribute to the overall wellbeing on the family.

A

Both China and India have geologically restrictive environments which at times caused conflicts and a feeling of isolation. This isolation had an impact on the overall culture in both China and India.

What accomplishments were made during China’s Shang and Zhou dynasties?

A

The Shang dynasty established or redefined the religious practices in China, while the Zhou dynasty established more of a guideline for future rulers or dynasties to fallow, via the Mandate of Heaven and they also during the span of this dynasty established a new social system known as the filial piety. Also the Zhou dynasty had more of an impact on China’s history considering that it was the longest dynasty in China’s history, running for eight centuries.

The family structures in both ancient India and China are both very similar, except China is more aimed towards family teamwork. One prominent feature in both was having a male leader, or figure leading the family.
