With more machines in the fields, people lost their jobs and looked for jobs in the cities.
What caused more people to engage in manufacturing for the first time ever in Britain’s history?
Technology made production faster, which caused more jobs to be available and made mass production of goods.

Define urbanization?
the movement of people to the city.
Causes of Urbanization?
As job opportunities were posted, people would travel to the city. As they got there, the job would already be taken but they didn’t have enough money to travel back. They had to stay in the city which caused overcrowding and terrible living conditions.
Impacts of urbanization?

Urbanization and the growth of the middle class.
How did the industrial revolution cause social classes?
Wealthy People made money from Industries.
Less Wealthy used their skills to work and move to the suburbs.
Low Wealth had little/ no money and lived in the streets.
How were workers treated in the workplace during the industrial revolution?
Terribly, the chances of surviving one week in the factory were very low. They could easily be replaced.

Terrible working conditions, people would be killed daily with the machines, and the company didn’t care about any of them.

They were working too much, over 10 hours a day. To solve this problem, many people protested but few worked.

Many children would die daily in the factories because of what they were being forced to do. Child labor laws were enforced which meant that children could not work over a certain number of hours in one day.

The working conditions were extremely terrible. Many people wouldn’t survive over a week and companies didn’t care because it was easy to replace workers.
List two major reform movements that still impact us today
Child Labor Laws- children could not work for 10 hours a day, and when they did work, the conditions were safe.
Work Hours- Instead of working 12 hours a day, people only work for 8 hours a day, with the optional choice of working overtime for more money.
Why were labor unions created?
To protest or conspire against the government or companies that were creating the wages, working hours, and conditions. They tried to overthrow the business they were in or shoot for higher wages.
