Define Industrial Revolution?
The Industrial Revolution was a time period when goods started to be manufactured by machines in factories.
How were earlier mills and factories powered?
They used hydro power (power from flowing water) to power mills and factories.
What goods were being produced in the first mills?
Textile goods (cloth).
Who was employed in the mills? Why?
- Young girls
- Kids
- Men
Young girls, as they weren’t allowed to do other jobs and earn money for themselves.
What does cotton gin do? What impact did the cotton gin have on cotton production?
Cotton gin takes the seeds out of the cotton plant. Cotton guns made the process of taking out the seeds from the plant way faster and easier, which made more increased amount of cotton production.
What are the interchangeable parts and why are they important?
- Parts that can be easily replaced
- Less expensive
What were the effects of the Industrial Revolution?
- Faster and more production of goods
- Employment of people
- Pollution
- Economy based on manufacturing
- Use of water and steam energy to power the machines
