A
  1. many infectious diseases can be spread from one patient to another by contaminated hands
  2. healthcare providers clean hands less than 50% the times that they should which causes HCAI in 1 in 25 patients. hands not washed after removal of gloves in 41% of incidences
  3. hand hygiene also has religious significance to many - representing the cleaning transformation to greater purity
  4. reduces no of diarrhoea by 23 - 40%
  5. reduces respiratory illnesses such as colds in general population by 16-21%
