What causes scabies?
Sarcoptes scabei
How does scabies present?
Asymptomatic for up to 6 weeks
Delayed hypersensitivity reaction then develops
Biggggg itch
What can be seen on examination of scabies?
Burrows on fingers/wrists
Mites in burrows
Excoriations, vesicles, papules, scabetic nodules
How is scabies investigated?
Extractoin of mite, scrapings + microscopy
How is scabies treated?
Permethrin cream
How is head lice treated?
Physical removal
Malathion cream
How long after infection do symptoms arise with head lice?
up to 2 weeks
