Q

Competitive antagonists (potency and efficacy)

A

-Competitive: reversibly bind to active site and block it, need more substrate to overcome, so shifts EC50 (or increased conc required/right movement and decreased affinity/ potency) but doesn’t affect efficacy (max response will stay the same)

2
Q

Non-competitive antagonists (potency and efficacy)

A

irreversibly bind, reduce efficacy (lower max response which cannot be overcome by adding more substrate since irrev bound to allosteric site etc), but EC50 stays the same (the concentration to reach half the new max is still the same, eg at same concentration you will reach half the max, but that max is decreased)
