What is Sport England?

A

A government agency that provides funding and facilities focussed on helping people and communities create a sporting habit for life.

Want people to be interested in sport so that more people taking part in sport will mean less money spent on healthcare (NHS).

Aim to make lives better through sport, also helping people excel in their already chosen sport.

  • Sportivate:
    professional coaching, 4 free sessions, helps motivation, fitness and health and meeting friends.
  • Sainsbury’s School Games:
    4 levels of the games; intra school (inside own school), inter school (between schools), county competitions (competing against counties league), national event (national league). To reintroduce competitive sport as people becoming critical of it in schools.
  • Get Equipped:
    Develops sport for disabled and increases disabled participants, not for profit organisation.

  • Bupa start to move:
    equips teachers to teach better, give children movement skills and help learn ‘ABC’s’ of movement, free of charge.
  • Bikeability:
    Sustains participation and confidence in riding bikes especially on roads, aimed at 5-9 year olds.
  • Fit for Girls:
    Run in Scotland by sport Scotland and youth sport trust, promoting secondary school sport for girls by consultations with girls, increasing number of girls only activities, increasing teachers knowledge on participation of girls.
