Political
When there is a general election all the parties publish a list of reforms they would carry out if elected. This is a manifesto. After they have 5 years to implement it.
Political- Advantages
- Democratic.
- Government are in the House of Commons, so every law proposed will be passed.
Political- Disadvantages
- If a different part is elected into Government, they may disagree with laws made by the previous Government and change them.
Public Opinion/Media
- Governments want to be reelected so many bend to public opinion and pressure for the media. The media play a large role in bringing public opinion to the Governments attention.
Public Opinion/Media- Advantages
- Parliament can respond to specific events and public opinions.
Public Opinion/Media- Disadvantages
- The Government may respond too quickly, which can lead to laws being created too quickly, not thought through and poorly drafted.
Pressure Groups
Pressure groups are created to pursue a particular interest or cause.
Pressure Groups- Advantages
- Often raise important issues to parliament’s attention on a wide variety of themes.
Pressure Groups- Disadvantages
- Different pressure groups could promote opposite ideals.
Law Reform Bodies
The law commission is the main law reform body. It’s a permanent panel of legal experts who research areas of law and recommended which laws need to be reformed..
Law Reform Bodies- Advantages
- The law is researched by experts and the commission consults widely on its projects.
Law Reform Bodies- Disadvantages
- Lack of parliamentary time means that many proposals are not enacted.
