People often take part in the same activities as their parents as this is what they are exposed to and encouraged to do.
Explain how PEERS can influence a person choice in physical activity?
People do what their friends do. It is also easier to succeed with the encouragement and support of friends.
Explain how FASHION can influence a person choice in physical activity?
Sports require the ‘right’ equipment. Some brands and therefore sports become fashionable.

Successful sports people make others want to do what they do. E.g. Jessica Ennis

If sports are covered in the media people are more aware of them and maybe encouraged to try the activity.
Explain how DISABILITY can influence a person choice in physical activity?
People with disability may only be able to take part in certain sports, it depends on if the sport can be adapted. The range of sports available for disabled people is increasing.
Explain how AGE can influence a person choice in physical activity?
Age can affect performance. There are some age restrictions in sports. Certain sports are easier to start young and appeal to people of different ages. e.g. Gymnastics when young, lawn bowls when older.

Some activities are viewed as male only or female only. Some activities aren’t as easily available for men as woman and vice versa.

Taking up a sport can be influenced by ethnic background and can link to culture. E.g. Indians and Pakistanis playing cricket.

The facilities and resources for the sport must be available. e.g water sports are more popular with people who leave by the sea.

Some locations not suitable for some sports. Links to facilities. E.g Skiing in Spain - there are no mountains with snow

The facilities need to be accessible. If people can’t access them easily then they may not do the activity

Facilities need to be available when people want to use them.
Explain how ILLNESS can influence a person choice in physical activity?
Individuals who are ill can’t take part.

Most activities have some cost associated to them. If people can’t afford them they can’t do them.
