Information About Your Study Flashcards
(12 cards)
Where did you do your physical geography
Reculver bay in whitstable
Why did you choose this place
We knew it would have protection recause of a historical landmark
What was your physical enquiry
How successful is hard engineering at reculver bay
What are three primary data collection methods you used
Random sampling
Beach profiling
Wave frequency count
Why was random sampling an appropriate method
How is how erosion is impacted by these defences , the size of sediment - smaller sediment near defences because wave energy is absorbed
Why was beach profiling an appropriate method
If hard engineering is working then beaches should be higher and wider near the sea wall or rock armour
Why was wave freq count an appropriate method
If beach is eroding w low wave count then it is not working properly
How was beach profiling carried out
Place one ranging pole at the edge of the beach and another ranging pole 5 m away
Use clinimeter and point at the top of the first red band on the opposite ranging pole
Record the angle
1st ranging pole moves to the location of the second ranging pole
The second ranging pole moves back another 5M using the measuring tape
Process repeats until u have a full beach profile
What do you need for beach profiling
2x ranging poles
1x clinimeter
Tape measure
What type of data is beach profiling and wave Frequency count
Systematic
What hard engineering was used at reculver bay
Sea wall
Rock armour
Secondary data for reculver
Historical photos- compare conditions then and now
