Static Web pages?
PRE-BUILT CONTENT + REMAINS THE SAME EACH TIME THE PAGE IS LOADED.
Cheaper + EASIER TO CREATE + LOAD QUICKER.
Can be CHANGED by SITE EDITOR but will appear THE SAME for EVERYONE who has access to it.
Dynamic Web pages?
GENERATED WHEN THEY’RE LOADED + can APPEAR DIFFERENT TO DIFFERENT USERS.
HARDER TO CODE + CAN BE LINKED TO DATABASES TO ALLOW THEM TO SHOW PERSONALISED CONTENT.
Blogs?
SHARE INFORMATION with individuals that enjoy the same HOBBIES OR BELIEFS. Businesses can use blogs as a way of UPDATING their customer base with what they have done OR what they’re working on. Share info with customers in form of TEXT, IMAGES and VIDEOS. Takes a lot of EFFORT + time and customers can be lost if NOT UPDATING REGULARLY.
Podcasts?
Downloadable audio file + can be listened to when CONVENIENT for user. They’re becoming more popular so the possible audience base is growing every year. Takes TIME to record. Needs to be EDITED to remove mistakes.
Streamed Audio and Video?
The process of receiving video/audio data in a continuous flow. Allows the user to access the video/audio immediately. Does not require data to be downloaded entirely before use + users can watch/listen as soon as the connection starts. However, streaming requires high bandwidth so users may have PERFORMANCE ISSUES on slower devices and networks. Requires a constant network connection unlike downloadable media that can be used offline.
Social Media channels
Huge amount of data in an INFORMAL SPACE. Can receive FEEDBACK by users POSTS and COMMENTS. Includes real time statistics like views, likes + shares to give an insight to USER OPINION. Facebook + Twitter. Can increase a business’ ONLINE PRESENCE and its online 24/7 for users to interact. Posts can be shared between users. Can be shared in different INFORMATION STYLES like text, images and video. Businesses may need to hire a SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER to interact with customers + remove spam. There can be negative posts that spread quickly if a user complains. Businesses must be cautious about what they post.
Emails?
Provides a large amount of information ALMOST INSTANTLY. Businesses may use to advertise products, target specific users or inform customers about a marketing promotion. Faster + cheaper to send compared to traditional letters. Files can be attached. An audit trail can be kept to record communication. Can be sent and read at the user’s convenience and to any internet-enabled device across the world. But an INTERNET CONNECTION is required. Malware can spread as PHISHERS use emails to gain access to personal info. Some attachments sent via email can be UNREADABLE on different devices. Emails may automatically go to spam and be deleted without even being read.
Document stores?
Store online files in CLOUD STORAGE. Google drive, Dropbox + OneDrive. Allows user to access files from any location WITH AN INTERNET CONNECTION and opens up opportunities for collaboration. Documents stores are CONVENIENT for users. Teachers use document stores to share resources with other staff IN SCHOOL. Can only be accessed with INTERNET CONNECTION so files will be unavailable during maintenance. Keep data secure + available.
RSS Feeds?
Rich Rite Summary. Lets users SUBSCRIBE to UPDATES from their favourite websites. Web feed that UPDATES whenever a subscribed site RELEASES NEW INFORMATION. As of 2020, most browsers no longer have BUILT-IN RSS FUNCTIONALITY and it is RARELY USED.
