Injury Rehab Methods Flashcards
What is cryotherapy?
The use of cold temperatures to treat injury
What does RICE stand for when talking about cryotherapy?
Rest, ice, compression, elevation
What are the ways that cryotherapy can be used?
Ice baths, cryotherapy chambers
How does cryotherapy help with redistribution of the blood
Cold causes blood vessels to vasoconstrict
Sphincter contract
Directs blood to core
Maintain core body temp
What is proprioceptive training?
Uses hopping, skipping, jumping to restore lost proprioception
What does proprioception teach the body?
To control the position of an injured joint subconsciously
What is strength training?
Using some form of resistance (weight machines, resistance bands, body weight) to strength an injured areas. Prepares the body for exercise
What are hyperbaric chambers?
100% pure oxygen chambers that reduce the recovery time for an injury
Increases more oxygen being breathed in, more oxygen to injured area
What do hyperbaric chambers do to inured area?
Reduce swelling, increases white blood cell activity (increase blood flow)
What is hydrotherapy?
Use of warm water to improve blood circulation, relieve pain and relax muscles.
What helps support the body weight? So what…
The buoyancy of the water helps support body weight so less load on joints
