Q

What does H+ ion do?

A

The concentration of H+ ions determines the pH of a solution.
Hydrogen ions are used to make concentration gradients in organisms

Q

What does sodium ion do?

A

Sodium ions are used to co-transport glucose molecules in the kidney.

The sodium potassium pump acts to create a concentration gradients between sodium and potassium.

Q

What does phosphate ion do?

A

The phosphate ion is a component of ATP and ADP - they have an important role in storing energy in ATP molecule.

Phosphate is also a component of DNA,forming the sugar phosphate backbone of the double helix molecule.

Q

What does iron ions do?

A

Iron ions are found in the haem groups of the 4 polypeptide chains in the haemoglobin molecule.
They have a role to play in the transport of oxygen.
